- Abstract
Deformation microstructure of a microalloyed homogenized high‐Mn steel is investigated after hot compression at 900 °C. EBSD and TEM investigations of deformation microstructure reveal that in the absence of significant dynamic recrystallized grains, planar dislocation structures, microbands, TiC precipitates, as well as HCP martensite are formed within the hot deformed austenite grains. Interestingly, EBSD reveals the presence of twin‐like structures and kink band in the austenite after hot deformation, for the first time in this study. Kernel average misorientation profile indicates that slip is distributed between the twin‐like structure and the parent austenite resulting in wide range of variation in the texture of austenite. Moreover, the grain boundary character analysis of twin‐like structure indicates that the low angle grain boundaries are gradually converted into high angle boundaries with misorientation of 60° during the course of deformation. The authors study stress–strain curve and microstructure of an as‐homogenized austenitic Mn‐steel after hot compression at 900 °C. The results reveal that insignificant dynamic recrystallized grains is obtained after deformation. In addition, a twin‐like structure or kink band is seen for the first time in high Mn austenitic steel after hot compression.
