Peculiar Voices.
- Authors
Goebbels, Heiner
- Abstract
The article discusses the different artistic uses of the human voice, from classical western operatic styles, to the modern use of sound synthesizing technology. The author states that in 2008, he began experimenting with recordings of many different voices, from African singers, to people on the streets of Europe and the U.S. and those of his children, creating a single piece from such a pastiche. He claims that trained vocalists, being formal, lack a sense of self, and wonders if a middle ground between spontaneity and formality can exist. This article was translated by Susanne Winnacker.
