- Abstract
The article titled "Re-paralysis or a canary in the coal mine?" discusses a recently published study that aimed to identify factors contributing to the need for redosing of sugammadex, a drug used to reverse the effects of rocuronium, in children under the age of 2. However, the authors of the article express concerns about the dataset presented in the study, as important information such as the total amount of rocuronium administered, the timing and dosing of sugammadex, and the assessment of neuromuscular blockade were not disclosed. The authors argue that without this information, it is difficult to determine whether the study revealed re-paralysis or simply inadequate dosing of sugammadex due to lack of monitoring. They emphasize the importance of appropriate monitoring and suggest that future studies should include quantitative monitoring and information on dosing and timing of neuromuscular blockade and sugammadex administration.
