- Abstract
The article examines some possible changes that may have a profound impact on society and, therefore, on social work. It also attempts to look at the alternate directions that can be taken to deal with the changes envisioned. It gives examples of envisioned changes in social service. It mentions that the social work profession must put new emphasis on education. It discusses potential social developments: decisions concerning social policy will be made by computers and will be based on regional indexes of social problems, rather than by political maneuvering; poverty will be reduced to such an extent that public welfare will be eliminated as major program. There should be establishment of a group to assess and make recommendations about the many technological and social innovations that are already in the process of development. There are some stages of computer technology implementation and the same time there are some difficulties in the implementation of information and evaluation systems.
