- Title
Language typology and universal grammar: a commentary on the paper by Eric Potsdam.
- Authors
Hermon, Gabriella
- Abstract
This paper is a critical review and discussion of a novel approach to deriving typological universals directly from UG based principles and parameters. (See Potsdam, ), this issue.) It points out the pluses and minuses of such a research program and provides additional examples from Western Malayo-Polynesian languages (Indonesian and Batak), which illustrate the issues involved in extending the approach to a larger number of languages.
