- Abstract
The article discusses the importance of the ecology of digital media and its influence on humanity. The author highlights four fundamental issues related to new media: the potential to promote rational thinking, the development of democratic processes, access to meaningful information, and the increase in ethical awareness. The dematerialization of cultural supports and the virtualization of places of memory are key characteristics of the evolution of digital media. The text also mentions the importance of ethics, human beings, and the common good in building a viable mediasphere. The Christian tradition is cited as a contribution to understanding quality of life and the importance of ecological care. Digital culture is described as a meeting place between different areas of knowledge, facilitating humanizing dialogue. Finally, the article mentions that it is part of a research project on digital ecology developed by the Portuguese Catholic University.
