- Abstract
Reading and writing activities are part of the students' learning process. From this perspective, we emphasize that this research has as its object of study the chronicle genre in the classroom, starting from the following question: how can working with the chronicle genre help in the development of critical writing in the classroom? In order to answer this question, the aim of this article is to analyze the development of writing by students in the first grade of high school from the chronicle genre. For this, we seek theoretical support in the postulates of Bezerra (2017); Marcushi (2001); Silva (2020); Candido (1981). The methodology of our study consists of an action-research approach, of a qualitative nature, based on the application of the Didactic Sequence based on the assumptions of Schneuwly and Dolz (2004). The corpus of this research is composed of ten chronicles written by students in the first grade of high school, from a public school, partner of the Portuguese Language subproject - PIBID/CAPES/UNEAL.It was possible to notice, from the data analysis, that the directions in relation to the direct speech were present in the chronicles produced by the students of the first grade of high school, proving the understanding of the students in relation to the subject.
