- Abstract
Pharmacopuncture is a technique that uses drugs applied to acupuncture points, bringing benefits such as reducing the dose of medication. This case report aims to report the effectiveness of tranquilization in a dog after administration of a subdose of acepromazine in the Yin Tang acupoint, presenting the main clinical effects observed. A female, canine, 3 years and 6 months old, was previously evaluated for sedation through clinical history, as well as evaluation of physiological parameters and measurement by ultrasound of the spleen and splenic hilum before application and 20 minutes after application of acepromazine in the dose 0.01 mg/kg at the Yin Tang acupoint. The parameters were measured every 10 minutes, totaling two measurements in 20 minutes. In the first 10 minutes, it was possible to observe that the animal had a mild degree of sedation and physiological parameters within normal limits. Then, 20 minutes after application, the patient evolved to moderate sedation, maintaining physiological parameters within normal limits. When measuring the spleen and splenic hilum, it was possible to observe a slight splenomegaly after 20 minutes of application. The reassurance generated by this technique was satisfactory for this patient.
