- Abstract
The article discusses the major science curriculum programs which stress integration and consider the process that led to their development in Nigeria. Many of the science curricula for primary schools that are developed in Nigeria seem to draw inspiration from the African Primary Science Program, now the Science Education Program for Africa. At the secondary level, integration of science subjects into general/unified/integrated science has been limited to the first two years of secondary education or the first three years in the new six-year secondary education. Good examples of attempts to stress the unity of the sciences are the Nigerian Integrated Science Project and the Core Curriculum for Integrated Science: Junior Secondary Schools. Social aims and culture, nature of knowledge and pupils and the learning process are some of the factors considered in curriculum development.
