- Abstract
The emulsifiers for epoxy resin were synthesized from epoxy resin AG -80 and polyethylene glycol (PEG) in the presence of boron trifluoride ethylamine as catalyst, which were used to prepare the AG-80 epoxy resin emulsion with a solid of 55 % through the method of phase inversion emulsification. The effects of the molecular weight of PEG, the dosage of the emulsifier, the emulsifying temperature combined with dispersion rate on the properties of the epoxy emulsion were investigated by centrifugal stability test, particle size distribution test and rotary viscosity test respectively. The results indicated that the epoxy resin AG-80 was reacted with PEG successfully; When the blended mass ratio of the emulsifier and AG-80 was 1∶10, the emulsifying temperature was 50 ℃ and the dispersion rate was 1,000 rpm, the obtained emulsion whose rotary viscosity was 8,600 cps at 25 ℃ possessed the minimum average particle size of 0.5 μm. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) result demonstrated that the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the AG-80 was 73.7 ℃ higher than that of the cured epoxy resin E-44.
