- Abstract
Introduction: Burnout Syndrome is a mental exhaustion disorder resulting from psychologically exhausting work activities for the worker, frequent among health professionals, especially those in Primary Care (PC). Objective: To evaluate the quality of life and physical exhaustion of PHC professionals in a municipality. Methods: This is a cross-sectional, descriptive, quantitative study conducted with Primary Care health professionals in Serra Talhada - PE, between December 2019 and October 2020. Data were collected using an online form and a sociodemographic questionnaire, the WHOQOL-BREF instrument, which assesses the quality of life; and the Maslach Burnout Inventory instrument, which characterizes professional burnout. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee (CAAE No. 24200419.3.0000). Results: The sample had 18 participants. The majority were female (66.7%), married (66.7%), white (44.4%) and had completed higher education (72.2%). The mean age was 36.1 years. The main participants were doctors, nurses and community health workers (27.5% each). Regarding the domains evaluated, quality of life was assessed as "Fair" (72.2%) and Social Relationships as "Good" or "Very Good" (38.9%). Work environment (5.6%), quality of sleep and rest (11.1%) and stress level (16.7%) were the items with the lowest rating of "Good". Half (50.0%) of the respondents had a high level of exhaustion and 88.9% had high depersonalisation. Regarding job dissatisfaction, the desire to quit was unanimous, evidencing the presence of Burnout. Conclusions: Burnout Syndrome is well reported among professionals dedicated to Primary Care, however, it is possible that the COVID-19 pandemic has aggravated exhaustion and decreased the quality of life of those involved in this line of care.
