- Abstract
The proclamation of the gospel is not tied to a specific medium. However, history is the means to understand Christian faith. Therefore, cultural heritage collections compiled by the church are of great value for the transmission of faith not only through their content, but also through their pure existence. These collections in themselves are manifestations of faith. In opposition, these manifestations are confronted with our today's relation to reality. Based on technology that can be manipulated easily our relation to reality is permanently reserved. We are organizing our regular working day on computer technology, but we do not trust it. For quite some time tablet computers have established themselves on the market and seem to be an instrument to absorb a large part of ecclesiastical libraries, archives, and museums. At least it could be foreseen that tablets will roll back the book and other documents in their conventional form. This must not be a threat for ecclesiastical heritage collections. The author argues that modern ecclesiastical research institutions are absolutely necessary in order to accommodate the modified habit of reading and studying. They need to open up their ancient collections.
