- Title
Interview mit Haran Thanigasalam, Camera and Imaging Consultant, MIPI Alliance.
- Abstract
MIPI Camera Serial Interface 2 (CSI-2) is the most widely used interface for embedded cameras and imaging systems worldwide. It supports various applications such as mobile phones, computers, industrial robots, and medical devices. The specification enables high-performance applications such as 1080p, 4K, 8K, and HDR prosumer video. CSI-2 is scalable and supports up to 32 virtual channels for image sensor processing. The latest version, v4.0, enables the transmission of image data over the cost-effective two-wire interface MIPI I3C/I3C Basic. CSI-2 is used in various SoCs and supports the development of machine vision applications through features such as differential pulse code modulation (DPCM) and multi-pixel compression (MPC). The MIPI Camera Working Group developed the specification to meet the requirements of IoT application design. Version 4.0 of CSI-2 includes the MPC function, which enables more efficient compression and better image quality. MIPI CSI-2 is also relevant for the embedded market as it enables more powerful and power-efficient AI solutions for edge environments. The MIPI Camera Working Group continuously works on developing new features and interfaces to meet the needs of system developers.
