- Abstract
Corticeus rufithorax Pic, 1903 (Coleoptera, Tenebrionidae) is for the first time recorded in France, near Narbonne (Gruissan, Aude), in the Mediterranean region. This very rare species was only known by 5 isolated localities from Greece (Olympia, type locality), Balearic Islands (Mallorca) and Catalonia, all being historical data, the most recent record dated from 1955. In spite of its rareness, 20 specimens were recorded by the author in March 2019 in the new French locality. Autecology of this Mediterranean species is defined, living on very recently dead Pine trees (Pinus halepensis), under bark of small tree branches of the canopy, associated with some identified Bark beetles. Illustrated morphological characters are done to separate this species to most related as well as an updated distibution map. C. rufithorax being very little-known and misinterpreted, the author gives a redescription of this species with first time published photos.
