- Title
On Hamlet and the Reformation: "To Show the Very Age and Body of the Time His Form and Pressure".
- Authors
McDonald, Mark A.
- Abstract
The article explores the analogy between the action of William Shakespeare's play "Hamlet" and the crisis surrounding Reformation. It discusses analogy as the basis for the argument or meaning of the play, as well as the surprising theme in many particular lines and features demonstrated by the analogical argument. The noble, yet flawed or tragic response of the Wittenberg to the crisis is highlighted. The drama of the Globe Theater is suggested as an alternative response that is not tragic.
