- Title
Los documentales y el modernismo: 1919-1939.
- Abstract
The article provides details regarding the history of the documentary film genre. The first few films made by French director Louis Lumière in 1895 are considered to be the first examples of cinematography that demonstrates real life situations. The 1922 documentary motion picture "Nanuk, el esquimal" directed by Robert Flaherty added sound and narration. It wasn't until 1929 when British film maker John Grierson used his film "Drifters" to convince the British government that documentary films were a genre in their own right. The article argues that elements such as narrative structure and photographic realism can empower social persuasion.
