Congress debates creation of national housing fund.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the debate conducted by the U.S. Congress regarding the establishment of the National Affordable Housing Trust Fund, a fund that would finance the construction, rehabilitation and preservation of affordable housing through non-appropriated resources in the U.S. It was stated that the trust fund, which will be generated from the small percentage of income of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, both government sponsored enterprises, will be managed by state and local governments. Furthermore, the Institute of Real Estate Management, an organization for real estate management professionals, has announced its support to the creation of the trust fund.
