- Abstract
This article addresses the use of geophysical techniques applied for the first time in a colonial site in the province of Tucumán. These techniques allow the locating archaeological features in the subsoil, indirectly and in a non-destructive way, facilitating the planning and execution of excavations. Following this methodology, geoelectric surveys were carried out in the eastern sector of the Cabildo of the old city of Ibatín (16th-17th century) and their data were interpreted using the IPI2Win Software to detect resistivity anomalies, which could indicate the presence of buried housing structures in the city, considering as a case study the search for the house of the encomendero Rodríguez Beltrán, in order to test the information provided by the written sources. Favorable results were obtained to identify subsurface anomalies that were later interpreted in the office and georeferenced in the field to help the subsequent archaeological intervention. As the site is covered by the jungle, this experience allowed us to suggest some possible strategies that we consider suitable to apply this type of technique in future surveys at the study site.
