- Abstract
This article explores the association between parental support and depressive and suicidal behaviors in adolescents who have experienced bullying. The study was conducted in public schools in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil, and included a total of 6,244 adolescents. The results showed that adolescents who were bullied were more likely to exhibit depressive behaviors, suicidal ideation, and suicidal planning. However, parental support, particularly in activities such as homework, problem-solving, and awareness of free-time activities, was found to have a protective effect against these negative outcomes. The study suggests that encouraging parents to actively engage in their adolescents' lives could help mitigate the adverse effects of bullying on mental health.
