- Abstract
The article focuses on the power electronics technology that is being widely applied to railways in an effort to conserve energy and in an effort to conserve energy and improve vehicle performance. Special attention has been paid to the chopper, which for many years has played a particularly important role in the underground railways. Progress in the capacity of gate turn-off thyristors and high performance microprocessors has made it possible to reduce the size of the chopper and improve its performance. Chopper control of armature current of a dc series motor eliminates resistance loss.
