- Abstract
The main objective of this study is to identify teaching competencies, perceived by students of an undergraduate course in Administration at a Brazilian public university, as fundamental to the teaching-learning process. It was also intended to compare the degree of importance with the degree of domain of these competencies in the students' view, in order to identify the needs for investment in educational actions. The empirical research was carried out in two stages. In the first, the qualitative method was adopted with individual semi-structured interviews with eight students of the Administration course. In the second stage, the quantitative method was used, based on a survey, a structured questionnaire was built in which, firstly, the students should assess the degree of importance of each competence and then the degree of domain, in two groups: mathematics subjects and others. The qualitative stage showed the existence of eight fundamental competences for the exercise of teaching. The survey results showed the importance of all competencies and the need for improvement, with greater emphasis on those expected from teachers in the mathematic area.
