- Abstract
Childhood granulomatous periorificial dermatitis (CGPD) is a rare skin condition that primarily affects prepubertal dark-skinned children. It is characterized by flesh-colored to yellow-brown papules around the mouth, nose, and eyes. This study reviewed 22 cases of CGPD and found that it affects both males and females, with a median age of presentation at 10 years. The rashes typically last for about 3.5 months and are often asymptomatic. The exact cause of CGPD is unknown, but it may be triggered by allergens or irritants. Treatment options include topical and systemic medications, but there is no consensus on the best approach. It is important to reassure parents that CGPD is a benign condition that resolves on its own, and caution should be exercised when using topical steroids in children.
