- Abstract
The article features the painting "The Potato Eaters," by Vincent van Gogh. The painting depicts a family gathered around the table for an evening meal of potatoes by the light of their lamp. The artwork reflects the plight of the poor who have dug the earth the same hands they are putting into the dish. Manual labor and a meal honestly earned is what the painting suggests. The exaggerated features of the peasants shown in the painting along with its somber hues and harsh texture went against convention.
