- Abstract
Studies on human motivation are developed by authors from various areas of knowledge, including Applied Social Sciences. In this context, this research aimed to analyze the national academic production (Brazilian) about the limitations and decorrences of Abraham H. Maslow's Theory of Human Needs. Regarding the methodological procedures, qualitative research was carried out, characterized as exploratory, descriptive and bibliographic, supported by a systematic review based on two electronic libraries with periodicals of great relevance. Among the main results, the following were identified as limits of the Human Needs Theory: the lack of scientific/empirical evidence; the hierarchy of needs; and the disregard of individuals' socioeconomic conditions. As for the decorrences of that theory, it was found that it inspired several authors throughout history in proposing new theories of motivation. Finally, considering the corpus of the research, it is emphasized that individuals are motivated by different needs and these need to be identified, reflected and analyzed by the Administrators who work in different types of organizations.
