- Abstract
This article presents information on the king of Urbino, Federico da Montefeltro the illegitimate son of Count Guidantonio. He ascended the throne on July 23, 1444 during the uprising in the city of Urbino, Italy. The revolt had accomplished its purpose of assassinating Federico's younger half-brother, Oddantonio who being the legitimate son had succeeded as ruler on his father's death in 1444. Federico's primary concern, once granted power by the most influential of his subjects, was to retain authority particularly as he was faced with the hostility of Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, the aggressive lord of the neighbouring state of Rimini.
