- Abstract
Bacterial meningitis is a disease which has particularly serious consequences for the subjects surviving. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the main consequences, and know the signs and symptoms through a case study of a child who acquired bacterial meningitis in the neonatal period, knowing its complications through research and medical records including the participation of the family before diagnosis. For this it was necessary beyond the home visit with the patient's medical history, a literature review of bacterial meningitis, research papers and analyse to medical records of the rehabilitation school which the patient attends. Given the observed, found that the severity of the disease especially in newborn pre-term and low birth weight leads to possible complications. Ultimately, the early detection of changes allows adequate treatment and preventing, in some cases, the installation of permanent impairment and disability of the individual, since the signs and symptoms are nonspecific during the neonatal period.
