The author publishes and studies two unknown poems of Eusebio de Matos (*1629 †1692), a major figure in Brazilian literature from the sixteenth century. Found in Portuguese libraries, the two texts - a sonnet and a romance - bring new light on the work of Gregorio's brother, revealing a poet who was not confined to the religious themes, that dominated the various aspects of Baroque style common in literature of that period.
