- Title
The Frontier and Patrick's "Ministry of Slavery".
- Authors
PALMBUSH, COURTNEY
- Abstract
In Patrick's writings -- Confessio (Confession) and Epistola ad Milites Corotici (Letter to Coroticus) -- we catch a glimpse of what wilderness meant for him -- marginalization, desolation, and captivity, artfully presented in a way that reflects his doctrinal understanding of grace and free will. Patrick expresses marked differences, and may perhaps even be subverting standard ascetic discourse as he expresses the necessity for, and actuality of, divine intervention in situations involving the harsh particularities of his frontier circumstances.
