Manuel Puig's novel Kiss of the Spider Woman (1976) presents two apparently opposed characters whose face-off allows the writer to address issues as fiercely silenced as sexual and gender identity or political nonconformity. This article analyzes the changes introduced by the Argentine writer in his theatrical adaptation of the novel in 1981.
