- Abstract
The article discusses India's government and the role of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), or local government. The author explains that PRIs have three tiers, village, block, and district, and strive to represent all of India's diverse population. He notes that states are responsible for devolution to PRIs, with the central government mandating only aspects including their existence, election cycle, and inclusion of women and minorities. He explains how the various government entities work.
