- Abstract
The article analyzes the scope of partisan-based public policy choice in Australian states, particularly the perspective of liberal government in Tasmania. This study focuses on the extent of which the Liberals attained public policy changes which could be attributed mainly to partisanship factors. Included in the discussion is the two views concerning partisanship, first is the view on the Tasmanian political culture which is helpful in shaping policy, and second is the view that there are Australia-wide trends which would shape public policy. Moreover, the study uses output indicators of performance such as the changes in ministerial portfolios, government organizations and public employments, in legislation and in budgetary allocations to show changing policy outputs.
