- Abstract
The article discusses research on the life-threatening acute renal failure and metabolic acidosis. It references a study by Niklaus Hofliger and colleagues, published in the August 4, 2008 issue of "NDT Plus." The researchers observed a man with ataxia, anomia and moderate headache. They initiated intravenous ethanol therapy due to a high suspicion of ethylene glycol (EG) intoxication. They found that oxalate crystals in urine, high osmolar gap and anion gap acidosis are suggestive of EG intoxication.
