- Abstract
The article discusses how argatroban can lead to severe hypercholesterolaemia in a chronic haemodialysis (HD) patient suffering from heparin-induced thrombocytopenia. It defines argatroban as a synthetic direct thrombin inhibitor commonly used to treat patients with antithrombin III deficiency or those with type II heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT). It concludes that argatroban can cause hypercholesterolaemia in HD patients with HIT as a serious side effect.
