The article discusses United States Geological Survey (USGS) geologist Albert Peale and photographer Charles Loughrey's work in geological survey photography in Montana and Wyoming. Topics discussed include geologists themselves photographing topography and mineral resources in order to reduce costs and Loughrey working as a photographer on Peale's summer 1888 survey crew.
