An editorial is presented on fluid administration in the treatment of sepsis and septic shock. Topics discussed include fluid resuscitation in patients to prevent extension of duration of shock and organ ischemia, associations between excess fluid administration and increased mortality due to septic shock, and difference between actual and expected mortality in the low fluid range.
