- Authors
Fredricks, David N
- Abstract
The author discusses a study of 90 patients with acute myelogenous leukemia who received cytotoxic chemotherapy and where oral swabs and stool were obtained to determine if the microbiota at these sites were predictive of subsequent Stenotrophomonas (S.) maltophilia infection. Topics include the importance of including key laboratory controls in microbiome experiments and the link between oral detection of Stenotrophomonas and a well-defined clinical outcome of Stenotrophomonas infection.
