- Abstract
The article presents a study on the declination in legitimization in Poland that have affected the overall trend in non-marital childbearing in 1985-2009. It cites the efforts to quantify the impact of the change in the propensity for shotgun weddings on the growth in the nonmarital fertility ratio (NFR) net. It reveals the important role of the declining propensity for legitimation in urban areas in 1991-1994 when it accounted for 73% of the increase in the NFR.
