- Abstract
Peste des petits ruminants is an acute viral disease of small ruminants caused by genus Morbillivirus and family paramyxoviridae. The disease is characterized by fever, oculo-nasal discharges, stomatitis, diarrhoea and pneumonia. The present study was undertaken to demonstrate the PPR virus along with the subcellular alteration caused by the PPR virus in affected cells. Indirect fluorescent antibody technique was used to confirm the presence of virus. The viral Ag was detected as apple green colour fluorescence in the affected cells. A part of the study was also conducted in cell culture in order to isolate the virus which provided a platform to study the cytopathic effect like rounding of the cells, syncytia formation and presence of intracytoplasmic inclusion bodies. Ultrastructural study was performed to correlate the presence and propagation of virus which was recorded in the form of electron dense bodies and the pathology within the cell organelles.
