The article explores the nature of corporate participation in the political process in the U.S. It analysis the manner in which a corporation develops and deploys its political capital across a range of policy initiatives. The analysis provides valuable insights as to the breadth of activities that influence legislative policymaking, the interrelationship of those activities, and their potential effectiveness, both in achieving the corporation's desired policy objectives and in enhancing its market position. The FedEx corp. story provides powerful evidence that political participation is an important component of corporate business strategy.
