- Abstract
This article discusses the family of Peter J. Wiens and Justina Janzen, a family cited as the first Mennonites to settle in the Siberian city of Omsk in Soviet Union. Topics discussed include a background on the migration of landless farmers from western regions of the Russian Empire into Siberia during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the businesses operated by Wiens families and the outbreak of the First World War in 1914.
