- Abstract
The article discusses role of ecotourism programs in building respect for other cultures and sustainability awareness, citing example of a program developed by Mount Royal University in Canada. It states that tourism can promote overconsumption of goods and pleasures, such as improperly treated wastewater discharge from resorts. It notes that Joe Pavelka, an ecotourism professor at the university brought the idea of re-introducing canoeing as a tourist activity in Peru.
