- Abstract
The article discusses the use of judicial performance evaluation (JPE) programs in New York State. According to the author, the function of these programs is to provide continuous and comprehensive assessments a judge's skills. The most comprehensive JPE programs typically features five elements, including evaluations conducted by an independent commission and public dissemination of evaluation results. Also cited are the evaluation criteria employed in these programs, including knowledge of substantive law and judicial demeanor.
