- Authors
HEIM, DOROTHEE
- Abstract
The origin of the intarsia panels in the choir stalls of the cathedral in Plasencia, unique in Castile, is the subject of this article. The author of the stalls, Rodrigo Alemán, does not appear to have known this kind of works, quite common however in central Italy. To explain the introduction of intarsia it is proposed the collaboration between the sculptor and the painter Pedro Berruguete, who came into contact with intarsia workshops during his stay in Italy. After comparing the figures in the intarsia in Plasencia and works of Berruguete, it is concluded that he also provided the designs for the representations made by artists related to the intarsia workshops in Florence, Urbino and Perugia.
