- Title
PIE *(H)nā̆s- or (H)n(e)H(e)s- 'nose'?
- Abstract
The article focuses on the reconstruction of the Proto-Indo-European (PIE) nose words, with regards to the anlaut laryngeal supported by Vedic compounds. It states that the disputed Vedic outcome of HNHV-; is settled using a parallel supporting an important feature of non-a reconstruction made by Michiel de Vaan. It says that the key element of the reconstruction influenced by Robert Beekes appeared to be incorrectly attributed by Leiden Indo-Europeanists to Frederik Kortlandt. It provides an example of *HnHC- > Latin năC- and suggests that the reconstruction by Kortlandt must be reinstated as the superior basis of works.
