- Abstract
TiO nanoparticles in the size range of 68-72 nm were prepared by the solution combustion synthesis method. The process was assisted by the use of a biocompatible surfactant, polysorbate (Tween 80). The synthesis was conducted in two steps with the precursors first being incubated with the surfactant and fuel (Dextrose) for 30 min before being subjected to instantaneous combustion at 250 °C. The structural and morphological properties of the resultant nanoparticles were studied and an antimicrobial evaluation was conducted. The irregular shaped nanoparticles elicited antimicrobial responses on both gram positive and gram negative bacteria as well as exhibiting antifungal properties.
