- Abstract
The article focuses on the effort to get an interior re-design of the deep-diving research vessel called Alvin. Engineers at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (WHOI) led by Patrick Hickley, Alvin operations manager, plans to start a multimillion-dollar overhaul to ultimately allow Alvin to stay longer in the ocean up to 12 hours and dive deeper to 6,500 meters. Moreover, scientists at WHOI have a test mock-up of the new Alvin sphere feedbacking on ways to make it more efficient and comfortable.
