- Abstract
The article focuses on Thomas Heneage who served as the servant of the British ruling family. The name of Thomas Heneage is among the least familiar of all the intimate servants of Henry VIlI's privy chamber, obscured partly by his nephew and namesake who served in British Queen Elizabeth's household as vice-chamberlain. There are no records of Heneage's early youth and education, but as early as 1513 he became important enough to witness the notarization of the payment to the French ambassador. Soon Heneage was entrusted with financial responsibilities, and by 1532 he was described as royal cofferer, handling enormous amounts of cash.
