- Abstract
An essay is presented on animal thinking and behavior. It references French philosopher Jacques Derrida's two long lectures on the autobiographical animal given in 1997 and later collected in "The Animal That Therefore I Am2." Derrida is cited to argue against the Western philosophical tradition differentiating animal from man. He excludes the former from everything that was conceived as proper to man such as thinking, laughing, suffering, mourning and speaking.
