- Abstract
Polymorphisms in the lipoprotein a gene has been implicated in the pathogenesis of coronary artery disease. There are wide differences in the allelic frequencies of individuals among various ethnic groups. The aim of this study was to determine the association of the lipoprotein a gene polymorphism (rs10455872-G allele) and the risk of developing coronary artery disease in a sample of Iraq population. Two groups of individuals including 150 patients with coronary artery disease and 100 healthy persons were analyzed for the studied polymorphism. Lipoprotein a gene was genotyped for the rs10455872 polymorphism by real time-PCR. Data ofrs10455872 A/G SNP of lipoprotein a gene were treated under several inheritance models. The dominant model explored a significant (OR = 2.42, CI 95%= 1.59-3.67, P:0.001) rise of the AG+GG carriers in the coronary artery disease patient group relative to the control group. The minor allele frequency was significantly (OR = 2.33, CI95% = 1.61-3.37, P: 0.001) raised in patients (20%) when compared with the control group (9%). The rs10455872-G allele of Lpa gene is associated with coronary artery disease patients in Iraqi individuals with a risk factor of 2.
