- Abstract
The objective of this research is to analyze the differences between burnout and engagement according to work shifts in the healthcare personnel of an oncological health institution. To collect data, a sociodemographic questionnaire is used to determine the type of shift in which the employees work, the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey and the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale-9. The research has a quantitative approach and a non-experimental design. The sample is made up of 56 participants (M = 44, H = 12). Statistical analyzes are performed through SPSS v.20, estimating descriptive measures and the assumptions of normality K-S (p < 0,05) are verified, indicating that the behavior of the data does not have a normal distribution. Therefore, a non-parametric analysis is performed with the Kruskal-Wallis statistic. The results indicate that there are no significant differences in burnout according to the type of work shift; however, there are differences in the absorption dimension, χ² = 10,5, p = 0,032, the highest score being the one obtained by the combined day shift (Me = 16,2) and the lowest was the mixed shift for weeks (Me = 11,5). These results indicate possible avenues of research and intervention around sociodemographic and contextual variables that may have implications for burnout and engagement.
